How housing search works
Describe what you are looking for once — landlords see your request on the board, and new matching listings come to your e-mail.
For people looking for housing
Create a request
Enter the city, budget, move-in date, rooms and conditions (pets, WBS, furnished, languages) and, if you like, draw up to 3 zones on the map.
Choose the mode
“Board + e-mail alerts”: the request is shown on the public board and landlords can offer you housing. “E-mail alerts only”: the request is not published, you only receive e-mails.
Confirm your e-mail
Alerts need a confirmed e-mail address. When you turn them on, we send you a confirmation link.
Receive matching listings
New matching listings arrive by e-mail and appear in “My requests” together with offers from landlords.
Renew or close
A request runs for 30 days. 3 days before it ends we send a reminder so you can renew it with one click. Found a home? Close the request.
For landlords
Complete your listing
Add the optional fields available from, WBS required, rental term and the languages you speak — matching becomes more precise.
See how many requests match
In your listings, each published apartment shows “Matching requests: N”.
Open the matching requests
Tap the badge — the board opens with the requests that match this listing.
Offer your housing
On the request page, tap “Offer housing”, pick your listing and add a short message without contact details.
Watch out for scams
Never transfer money (deposit, rent or a “reservation fee”) before viewing the home and signing the contract, do not send copies of your documents to strangers, and do not pay through outside links. Report suspicious requests and offers with the “Report” button.
Frequently asked questions
For seekers
How many requests can I have?
A private person can have up to 2 active requests at the same time, in either mode. To add a third one, close or delete one of them. It is free for private persons.
How do requests from companies and brokers work?
Companies and brokers publish requests from their company workspace. Every request — on the board or alerts only — uses 1 publication from the company balance; renewing after 30 days uses another one. If the request is closed within 30 minutes of creation, the publication is refunded (once). You can add a label such as “Looking for a client”. Existing broker limits stay the same.
Is there a daily limit?
Yes: at most 20 new requests per person per day (Berlin time). This protects the board from spam and from requests being recreated over and over.
What is the difference between “Board + e-mail alerts” and “E-mail alerts only”?
With “Board + e-mail alerts” your request is shown on the public board and landlords can offer you housing. With “E-mail alerts only” it is not shown on the board — you only receive e-mails about new matching listings. The name of the request is visible only to you. Both modes count towards the limit.
How do e-mail alerts work?
Alerts are available to registered users with a confirmed e-mail address. When you turn them on, we send an e-mail with a confirmation link (double opt-in). Only after you confirm do we start sending listings published from then on.
How often will I get e-mails?
At most 1 e-mail every 15 minutes, with new listings grouped by your requests, and at most 10 e-mails a day. Further matches arrive in one morning digest the next day. One e-mail lists up to 10 listings plus a link to see all of them.
Will you send me the same listing more than once?
No. We send you each listing only once — even if it matches several of your requests (the e-mail then shows which ones) or is published again.
How long does a request stay active?
30 days from creation or the last renewal. 3 days before the end we send an e-mail with one-click renewal. Without renewal the request stops: it disappears from the board and alerts end.
What are map zones and who can see them?
You can draw up to 3 zones on the map. Only you see their exact outlines; we use them to match listings. On the board zones are shown only in a coarse form (a grid of about 500 m) and only after consent to maps. Without zones we match by city or by a radius (10 km by default) around the chosen place.
How do I turn alerts off?
Every e-mail has the links “Turn off alerts for this request” and “Turn off all alerts” — no sign-in needed. You can also turn alerts off in “My requests”. After turning off all alerts, a new confirmation is needed to turn them on again.
How do I recognise scams?
Do not transfer a deposit or a “reservation fee” in advance, do not send copies of documents to strangers and do not pay on outside payment sites. Contact details are not allowed in the texts of requests and offers. Report a suspicious request with the “Report” button — moderators review it.
How long do you keep my data?
Closed or expired requests are deleted automatically 45 days after they end. The log of sent e-mails is kept for 90 days; the records of which listings were already sent to you are kept for up to 180 days and are deleted once you have no request left.
For landlords
What does “Matching requests: N” mean?
For each published listing we count the live requests on the board that match it (city or zones, rooms, budget, date, pets, WBS and more). Requests in “E-mail alerts only” mode are neither counted nor shown. Tap the badge to open the board with these requests.
Why fill in “available from”, WBS, rental term and languages?
These fields are optional, but they make matching of requests and alerts more precise. Empty fields exclude no one.
How do I offer my housing?
Open a request on the board, tap “Offer housing”, choose one of your published listings and optionally add a short message without contact details. The seeker sees your offer with a link to the listing.
When do seekers get alerts about my listing?
After you publish a listing or change a published one, we automatically compare it with requests that have alerts turned on and send it to matching seekers. Each seeker receives a listing only once, even after it is published again. The e-mail contains a link to the listing, not your contact details.
How do I show that I accept payment by the Jobcenter?
In the listing, tick the payment method “Public authority payment”. Seekers whose rent is paid by the Jobcenter then see your listing in their matches. We do not calculate KdU limits.
